Questions and answers

Your car can only run if it is filled with a sufficient amount of oil. However, after a while, the oil will become ineffective and must be replaced with new oil. During an oil change, the old oil is removed from a vehicle`s engine and replaced with new, fresh oil. The engine oil filter is usually also exchanged at the same time.

In your owner’s manual, the oil type and viscosity that is suitable for your vehicle will be specified. You can also use the online selector on this page which offers you a convenient way of finding the right oil type by answering a few simple questions. Plus, your recommendation will include more information on the benefits you can expect from your oil.

To find out how often you should check the oil level, please check your owner’s manual for details. The engine oil level should be checked regularly and maintained properly. Operating with an insufficient amount of oil can damage the engine, and this damage is not covered by warranty.

Refill your oil if you’re running very low on oil, but make sure to follow this refill up with a full oil change. Remember: When you add new motor oil to bring your oil levels back up to normal, the old, sludgy, dirty oil doesn’t disappear – it’s just mixed with the new, fresh, clean oil. This puts more stress on the new oil and keeps it from working as well as it could. That’s why it is so important to still get the oil changed as soon as possible, as refills are only a temporary solution.

If the engine oil pressure is low, carefully drive to the nearest safe location and stop the vehicle. Turn the engine off and check the engine oil level. If the level is low, add oil as required. If the warning light remains on after adding oil or if you have no oil available, have the vehicle inspected at a professional workshop as soon as possible. Kia recommends visiting an authorised Kia dealer/service partner.

To know how often you should change your oil, please check your owner’s manual for details.

Not only is changing your own oil inconvenient, but it could also be risky and messy. A non-professional performing the service increases the risk of a mistake being made or a pre-existing issue being overlooked. If you were to change your own oil for the first time, you would have to research the steps and materials required and purchase the necessary materials. Having your oil professionally changed reduces the chances that something goes wrong. Certified Kia technicians are specifically trained to get it right the first time. Their expertise means that they’re very unlikely to make amateur mistakes such as using the wrong oil, overlooking a leak, or cross-threading the filter.

a) To maintain engine lubrication: regularly changed oil lubricates all the moving pieces in your engine to keep everything running smoothly.
b) To cool engine components: changing oil helps to avoid overheating by reducing friction, transferring heat and absorbing by-products of combustion.
c) To promote longevity: routine maintenance simply makes the vehicle last longer.
d) To improve gas mileage: poor engine lubrication can lead to increased fuel consumption, so make sure there is enough clean oil in the engine at all times.

Ensure the vehicle is on level ground. Start the engine and allow it to reach normal operating temperature. Turn the engine off and wait for about five minutes for the oil to return to the engine sump. Pull the dipstick out, wipe it clean, and reinsert it fully. Pull the dipstick out again and check the level. The level should be within the range mentioned in your owner’s manual.

Open your car’s bonnet, locate the dipstick and wipe it clean. Reinsert it again, remove it and check the oil level. There are two marks on the dipstick to show the optimum level your oil should be at. If your oil level is below the line, you should immediately refill your engine oil. Do not overfill it. Use a funnel to help prevent oil from being spilled onto the engine components. Only use the specific oil types suitable for your vehicle. Refer to the owner’s manual or oil selector on this page to find out which oil types work with your engine.

Have the engine oil and filter replaced at a professional workshop. Kia recommends visiting an authorised Kia dealer/service partner.
